A Video Game Music Documentary


      The Players' Score: A Videogame Music Documentary is an upcoming independent documentary film showcasing the relationships,  developments and communities video game music has fostered. From chiptune childhoods to professional pursuits and beyond, this film will follow cover bands, composers and conventions to demonstrate the cultural and personal impact of video game music.

Currently in production, The Players' Score: A Videogame Music Documentary is scheduled to release in 2015.

Justin Jennings
Audio Engineer

Justin is the sound designer and composer for Black Howler Studio's game No Man's Land. Justin is mixing audio for The Players' Score.


Jake Kaufman 

Jake, also known as Virt, has composed for over 80 videogames, including notable titles such as Shovel Knight. Jake is crafting the OST for The Players' Score.


Arin Hanson

Arin Hanson, also known as Egoraptor, is a voice-actor and animator known for his many comedy and videogame based web series. Arin will be narrating The Players' Score.

DIF is is a small group of VGM enthusiasts known for providing the PAX Community DVD and being passionate for capturing live events on film. DIF is bringing superb multi-cam  concert capturing talent to the team.

The team behind The Players' Score: A Videogame Music Documentary has had the privilege of interviewing many talented composers, musical artists, and interesting individuals in the realm of videogame music.


Austin Wintory - Composer

Austin Wintory has scored over over 60 feature films and videogames. His score for the game Journey debuted on the Billboard charts higher than any original score in gaming history, became the first-ever Grammy-nominated videogame score and won an Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences award, two British Academy Awards, a Spike TV VGA, and IGN’s “Overall Music of the Year.”

Jake Kaufman (Virt) - Composer

Jake Kaufman has composed for over 80 videogames. His soundtrack for the game Shovel Knight remained as one of the best-selling albums on Bandcamp for months despite being released as a name-your-price album. Outside of composing, he also creates arrangement albums and participated in the videogame coverband The Smash Brothers.

The Megas - Band

The Megas started playing their unique blend of Mega Man themes and original rock music at various conventions and video game themed concerts all over the country, from Bit Gen in Baltimore and Nerdapalooza in Orlando, to MAGfest in Virginia and PAX in Seattle. Their music was even featured on Capcom's Megaman Rocks 25th Anniversary album.



Starbomb - Band

Starbomb is a video-game-comedy-rap-music-love-child made up of two-thirds “Ninja Sex Party” members Danny Sexbang (Leigh Daniel Avidan) and Ninja Brian (Brian Wecht). In addition its 1/3 Youtube Personality/Voice Actor/Animator Egoraptor (Arin Hanson). Starbomb's self-titled first album debuted at No. 6 on the US Billboard Rap Charts, and No. 1 on the US Billboard Comedy, Independent, and Heatseekers Charts. In addition to appearing in “The Players' Score” Egoraptor will also be lending his voice as narrator of the film.

Manami Matsumae - Composer

We've been incredibly fortunate to include one of the original icons of video game music in our film, "Mega Man" composer Manami Matsumae. She's responsible for one of the most lauded and covered video game soundtracks of all time, and was even brought back to contribute to the "Mega Man 10" soundtrack. Manami also collaborated with our very own Jake Kaufman on the original soundtrack for "Shovel Knight", and will be collaborating on the soundtrack for the highly-anticipated upcoming "Mighty No. 9".


Darren Korb - Composer

Darren Korb was one of the original indie-darlings when he came on to the scene with his phenomenal "Bastion" soundtrack, which helped launch SuperGiant games into the spotlight. In addition to being the composer, he's the Lead Audio and Music Designer at SuperGiant and most recently put his talents to use on their excellent "Transistor".


Marty O'Donnell

Marty O'Donnell is the prolific composer behind the iconic original soundtracks for the "Halo" series, and more recently "Destiny". Formerly the in-house composer and audio director for "Bungie", he now freelances as a composer with people eagrly waiting to see what he takes on as his next project. He's collaborated with the likes of Steve Vai, Michael Salvatori, and Paul McCartney.

Urizen - Band

Urizen is a theatrical art-rock electronic space-opera videogame-inspired band based in Dallas, Texas. The band is well known for their entertaining and highly involving stage shows including the appearance of an 8-foot-tall mecha-robot; a 12-foot inflatable cycloptic goo monster; a mad scientist nemesis; electrifying mind-control helmets; and much more.
